Khanis Suvianita was graduated from Psychology Faculty, Surabaya University, in Surabaya then she took her master degree in Development Studies with the major is Women, Gender and Development in International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in Den Haag. Her intellectual consent on gender and sexual diversity and religion also the impact of religious violence to sexual minority. Currently, she is conducting a research on religion and the practice of waria (transwoman) in Eastern Indonesia, in two different regions namely Gorontalo (Sulawesi) and Maumere (Flores). This in a comparative studies between two different religious groups, namely Islam and Catholic in Indonesia contemporary particularly after the collapse of Soeharto regime. In the past, she was voluntarily working with gender and sexual diversity community and with GAYa Nusantara foundation to develop programs strong in diversity between religious leaders, religious activists, youth and gender and sexual diversity community in East Java. In 2012 she had documented stories of human rights violation toward LGBTI communities in different cities in Indonesia. Besides, she observed the problems of Chinese Indonesians and religions in the Indonesian contemporary and did her thesis research on Chinese Indonesian women from three different generations from colonial to New Order period.
